Getting Started
Am I eligible for an INCAP Career Program?
Career Programs are designed for adults who are ready to prepare for a new career or advance in their current one. Eligibility requirements vary by occupation and may include factors such as prior education, work experience, or other program-specific requirements.
Looking for a specific program? Explore individual Career Programs or contact the Industry Talent Association for your industry of interest to learn about available opportunities and eligibility requirements.
I'm changing careers. Is this program for me?

Whether you're entering the workforce, changing careers, or advancing your current skills, INCAP Career Programs are designed to prepare you for in-demand occupations.
Explore Career Programs to find opportunities that match your interests and career goals.
How do I know which Career Program is right for me?
Start by exploring the occupations that interest you. Each occupation page includes information about training, program length, workplace experience, and career outcomes to help you compare your options.
Right now, Career Programs are available in the Tech/IT industry. Other industries are expected to add programs for adults in the coming years.
For more information, contact the Industry Talent Association for your industry of interest.
During the Program
Can I continue working while I'm in the program?
Your Career Program is your job. You'll be hired by a participating employer and earn a paycheck while completing technical instruction and building the skills needed for your new career. Instead of leaving the workforce to go back to school, you'll learn and work at the same time.
Will I be paid?
Yes. Participants in the INCAP Career Program are employees and earn a paycheck while completing their training. Instead of paying to gain experience, you'll build your skills through paid employment with a participating employer.
Compensation varies by Career Program, occupation, and employer. Visit individual occupation pages for program-specific pay information.
Will this cost me anything?
No. The INCAP Career Program is designed to make career training more accessible. Rather than paying tuition while preparing for a new career, you'll earn a paycheck through paid employment as part of your Career Program.
What does a typical schedule look like?
Every Career Program is different, but current programs are divided between technical instruction and paid employment with a participating employer. Depending on the occupation, instruction may be online, in person, or a combination of both, while workplace training takes place in a real work environment alongside experienced professionals.
Visit individual occupation pages for more information how training is structured.
How long does a Career Program take?
The length of an Indiana Career Apprenticeship Pathway Career Program varies depending on the occupation and degree you're pursuing. Current programs are two years in length.
Visit individual occupation pages for occupation-specific timelines and program details.
Degrees & Outcomes
What will I earn when I complete the program?
Graduates earn an INCAP credential or degree, which, depending on the program, may be equivalent to an academic associate, bachelor's, or master's degree or provide credit toward one or more of those degrees. Every participant graduates with hands-on workplace experience and qualifications that support continued education and career advancement.
Interested in career outcomes? Individual occupation pages include median career salaries, job roles you can land after you finish the program, and other program-specific details.
How is an INCAP degree different from a traditional college degree?
An INCAP degree is designed around the knowledge and skills employers need for success in a specific career. Rather than completing your education before entering the workforce, you'll combine technical instruction with paid employment, applying what you learn in a real workplace from day one.
INCAP programs are developed in partnership with employers and industry leaders to ensure graduates are prepared for today's workforce. INCAP credentials and degrees will also be recognized by colleges in Indiana, giving you multiple options for your next step. You can continue in the workforce, enter another INCAP Career Program, or go on to college, likely finishing an academic degree in less time because of the credits you earned in your INCAP program.
