Common Questions
Program Basics
How much do Automation and Robotics Technician apprentices get paid?
INCAP Automation and Robotics Technician apprentices typically earn between $14-26 per hour, with the exact rate depending on the employer and what point the student is at in the program. Because Automation and Robotics Technician apprentices are employees of the business, they fall under their employer's policies for benefits, performance reviews, and pay increases over time.
When does the apprenticeship start and how long does it last?
Students begin exploring manufacturing careers as early as 8th and 9th grade through career exploration activities and planning with their school counselor. Students apply and interview when they’re in 10th grade.
The INCAP Automation and Robotics Technician apprenticeship officially begins in 11th grade and lasts four years, including summers.
What does a typical weekly schedule look like?
An INCAP Automation and Robotics Technician apprentice follows a weekly schedule that changes over time as apprentices gain experience:
- 11th grade: Two days per week at their employer, with the other three days at school
- Summer after 11th grade: Five days per week at their employer
- 12th grade: Three days per week at their employer, with the other two days at school
- Summer after 12th grade: Five days per week at their employer
- Years 3 and 4: Four days per week at their employer and one day completing coursework
When Automation and Robotics Technician apprentices are on-site, the goal is eight-hour days, with schedules set in coordination with their employer. Students and employers work together to identify schedules that meet both parties' needs, allowing students to potentially continue participating in extracurricular activities, including those that take place during the summer.
What is the work environment like?
INCAP Automation and Robotics Technician apprentices work in advanced manufacturing environments that use robotics, automation systems, sensors, controls, conveyors, and production equipment. They work alongside experienced technicians, engineers, operators, and manufacturing professionals.
What You'l Learn & Earn
What skills will I learn?
