Common Questions
How can my company get started with INCAP?
Covers joining an ITA, first conversation, onboarding, etc.
If your organization is in one of the nine industries currently participating in INCAP, your first step is to contact your Industry Talent Association. If your organization is not yet represented, and you want to learn how you can bring INCAP to your industry, contact CEMETS iLab Indiana, the coalition responsible for building INCAP.
What is expected of participating employers?
Combines:
- What does my business need to do?
- How often and how long are apprentices on site?
- What does workplace training involve?
The INCAP Apprenticeship Program, which is for high schoolers, is year-round, and apprentices are on-site all day for at least three days a week, based on their occupation and what year of the program they’re in. The rest of their time is spent at school in alignment with a typical high school academic calendar. Typically, students in the second year of an apprenticeship program (and third year, if applicable) spend four days a week working on-site and one day a week in the classroom.
Schedules for the INCAP Career Program, which is for adults, vary by occupation. For more information, visit the Adult page.
How do we recruit apprentices or Career Program participants?
Include the role of the ITA and recruitment support.
Once you have decided to hire INCAP high school apprentices or adult trainees, you will inform your Industry Talent Association. Your ITA will share the information with a regionally-located INCAP Connector who works with schools and high schoolers.
Do employers pay apprentices and Career Program participants?
Yes, organizations are required to pay high schoolers and adults participating in INCAP a training wage. The pay rate is determined by industry and is tailored to each occupation.
Does my organization pay a fee to participate?
Membership, annual contributions, other costs.
Organizations participating in INCAP help fund their Industry Talent Association. For more specific information on costs, contact your ITA.
Who provides the education and training?
Combines:
- How do I access the education and training materials?
- Who develops the curriculum?
- What training happens at school vs. at my business?
Each Industry Talent Association works with their industry’s employers to create education and training materials and will provide those to organizations participating in INCAP.
