Frequently Asked Questions
How can I start an INCAP program at my business?
If your organization is in an industry currently participating in INCAP, your first step is to contact your Industry Talent Association. If your organization is not yet represented, and you want to learn how you can bring INCAP to your industry, contact CEMETS iLab Indiana, the coalition responsible for building INCAP.
Does my business need to pay the students?
Yes, organizations are required to pay high schoolers and adults participating in INCAP a training wage. The pay rate is determined by industry and is tailored to each occupation.
How do I access the education and training materials and curriculum?
Each Industry Talent Association works with their industry’s employers to create education and training materials and will provide those to organizations hosting INCAP apprentices and trainees.
Does my organization need to pay a fee to participate?
Organizations participating in INCAP help fund their Industry Talent Association. For more specific information on costs, contact your ITA.
How often and how long are INCAP students on site?
The INCAP Apprenticeship Program, which is for high schoolers, is year-round, and apprentices are on site all day multiple days a week, based on their occupation and what year of the program they’re in. The rest of their time is spent at school in alignment with a typical high school academic calendar. Typically students in the second year of an apprenticeship program (and third year, if applicable) spend at least three days a week working on-site and the remaining days a week at school.
Schedules for the INCAP Career Program, which is for adults, vary by occupation. For INCAP Career Programs that are currently available, trainees spend multiple full days a week on the job, with the remainder of their time spent learning. As they advance in their program, they'll spend more time on the job.
How do I recruit an INCAP apprentice or trainee?
Once you have decided you are interested in hiring INCAP high school apprentices or adult trainees, you will inform your Industry Talent Association. Your ITA will share information about INCAP apprenticeship opportunities with a regionally-located INCAP Connector who works with local schools and high schoolers. For INCAP career training programs for adults, your ITA will recruit students and coordinate their participation.
